Refrigerator Light Not Working? How to Test and Replace It

1. Light Bulb Or Lamp
The bulb lights the interior when you open the door. When it burns out, the inside stays dark. So check the bulb and swap it for one of the correct type and wattage. In addition, make sure it is seated firmly in the socket.
2. Light Sockets
The light socket holds the bulb and feeds it power. When corrosion or heat damages the socket, even a good bulb stays dark. So inspect the socket for burn marks and test for voltage. Replace the socket if it is damaged.
3. Door Light Switch
The door switch turns the light on when you open the door and off when you close it. When it sticks, the light may stay off or stay on and heat the cabinet. So press the switch and check that it toggles. Replace it if it does not react.
4. Light Bulb & Ice Dispenser
Some models share the dispenser light with the ice controls. When the shared bulb or its wiring fails, the dispenser light goes dark. So check the bulb first, then the socket and switch. Replace the failed part to restore the light.
How to replace a refrigerator light bulb

Next, fit a new bulb of the same type and wattage, since an oversized bulb can overheat the housing. Finally, restore power and open the door to confirm the light comes on.
