The Frigidaire ULTRAWF (PureSource Ultra) and EPTWFU01 (PureSource Ultra II) are genuine OEM refrigerator water filters made by Frigidaire, and Safe Appliances supplies both wholesale at dealer pricing, in bulk, with OEM quality and a low return rate. This guide covers which cartridge fits your refrigerator, full specifications, what each reduces, cross-reference numbers and compatible models, how to install and maintain them, and why genuine OEM matters for resellers.
ULTRAWF vs EPTWFU01 – which one do you need?
The two cartridges are not interchangeable – they are different generations with different shapes and mounts:
- ULTRAWF (PureSource Ultra) – a long, 11-inch cylinder with a push-to-lock fit (push straight in to click; push again to release). Found mainly on Frigidaire Gallery and Professional lines from roughly 2009-2017.
- EPTWFU01 (PureSource Ultra II) – a shorter, flat 9-10 inch cartridge with a push-and-twist fit (insert and turn 90 degrees clockwise). Used on newer lines from about 2015 onward.
Always confirm the correct part by your refrigerator’s model number before ordering. Send us a part list and we cross-reference it in bulk.

What these filters reduce
Both cartridges are certified to three NSF/ANSI standards:
- NSF/ANSI 42 – aesthetic effects: chlorine taste and odor, and particulates.
- NSF/ANSI 53 – health effects: heavy metals such as lead and mercury, asbestos, VOCs and cysts.
- NSF/ANSI 401 – emerging contaminants: trace pharmaceuticals, pesticides and herbicides.
Their coconut-shell activated carbon block delivers cleaner, better-tasting water and ice without stripping out beneficial minerals.

How to install or replace a PureSource Ultra filter
- Locate the filter – usually on the ceiling or the top-right back corner of the fresh-food compartment.
- ULTRAWF: push the old cartridge straight in to release it and pull it out; insert the new one and push until it clicks. EPTWFU01: turn the old cartridge about 90 degrees and pull it out; insert the new one and turn 90 degrees clockwise to lock.
- Run about 2-3 gallons through the dispenser to flush carbon fines and clear trapped air.
- Reset the filter-status indicator (press and hold the filter or reset button for about 3 seconds).
When to replace and maintenance
Replace about every 6 months (around 200 gallons for the ULTRAWF; 125-200 for the EPTWFU01), whichever comes first. Heavy-use households or high-sediment water can shorten that interval. Replace sooner if you notice:
- Reduced water or ice dispenser flow;
- A returning chlorine taste or odor;
- The filter-status indicator turning on;
- Cloudy or off-tasting water.
An exhausted carbon block stops reducing contaminants effectively and can restrict flow. The regular 6-month cycle also makes these strong repeat-order items for resellers.
Why genuine OEM
Genuine Frigidaire PureSource cartridges guarantee exact fit – the correct length and mounting for each generation – and the full NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401 performance. For retailers and repair companies, that keeps returns and callbacks low, which protects margin on volume and builds repeat trust with end customers.
Troubleshooting
- Filter will not seat: confirm you have the right generation – push-to-lock (ULTRAWF) vs push-and-twist (EPTWFU01) – for your housing.
- No or slow water after replacement: make sure the cartridge is fully locked, then flush trapped air by running the dispenser.
- Sputtering or air in the line: normal for the first minute or two after a change – keep flushing until the stream is steady.
- Cloudy water: usually trapped air, which is harmless and clears after flushing.
- Leaking: re-seat the cartridge, confirm it is the correct model, and check the seal.
